The Klosterneuburg Monastery was founded in 1114 and from 1730 buildout into a large Baroque monastery complex, modeled after the Escorial in Madrid.
The most precious possession of the monastery and one of the most important works of art of the Middle Ages is the Verdun Altar, an exceptional enamel work. The monastery has a unique museum that comprises principal works of painting, sculpture and the arts and crafts from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
